Inviting
Delegates
What is the best way
to invite these Delegates to the Conference?
Should you or one of your colleagues approach them
personally? This might be a suitable strategy if you
know them well and want the opportunity to chat informally,
answer questions and so on. It may not be appropriate
when dealing with people who might not welcome an
informal approach and could even be annoyed or offended
by it.
Telephone
invitations have the advantage of being informal and
allowing instant, two-way communication. The disadvantages
are that you might call at an inconvenient moment
or find it hard to judge the person you speak to by
their voice.
Should
you send a letter of invitation? This might be most
appropriate when you wish to incorporate persuasive,
back up documents but inappropriate if you are not
sure how to phrase an invitation.
You
could issue invitations via a third party. A business
associate might be better place to invite delegates
on your behalf if he or she knows them well and understands
what makes them tick. Will he or she approach them
properly, though, and say what you want them to?
