Outside Individuals And Organisations
On
what does your decision depend?
What
you decide depends partly on the knowledge and expertise
currently available to you in each particular area,
both your own and that of colleagues and associates,
at the venue and at the overnight accommodation. Is
the expertise there to successfully produce publicity
material, arrange transport, decorate the venue, equip
the conference, provide security, see to catering arrangements
and social activities, and to insure the event?
The time constraints imposed on you are also a factor.
Do you have the time to carry out each and every task
and duty yourself – to collect a speaker and his or
her partner or tape a sign to a wall in the foyer? Should
you not concentrate on the key activities, delegating
others elsewhere? Can you leave them to do their work
with occasional, rather than excessive and time-consuming
checks?
Take
into account financial limitations, too. How far does
your budget stretch, and how much have you set aside
for specialist help and the necessary fees? Do you have
the money to call in expert assistance? Then again allowing
for the cost of your time, can outside help be brought
in at a lower level than would be incurred in-house?
