Is this an issue? It may be! Are competitors likely to want to infiltrate your event to find out about your past performance or future plans? Are irreplaceable prototypes on display at that promotional conference to launch a new product? Is expensive equipment being used – projectors, camcorders, video players? Yes? Then you do need security!

You may therefore need strict registration procedures such as a registration desk by the entrance, staffed by two or more assistants. Names should be checked, badges handed out and worn at all times. Make polite but firm checks on unidentified people milling around and possibly regularly monitor comings and goings, particularly regarding equipment being moved about. You may need people there to make these checks – which should be done as politely as possible.
