Tips on how to promote yourself:

  • Register with the Yellow Pages. Make an ad which is quite prominent and which is noticeable to anybody who comes to that section.
  • Also register with telephone facilities like Ask me, Times Infoline, Just Dial and 888 (Mumbai City). For other cities get yourself registered in similar telephone facilities.
  • There are websites, which maintain a database of all kinds of people in a particular city. Get yourself registered on those sites. For example-indiamart.com is one such site.
  • Give advertisements in your local cable channel.
  • Ask your friends, relatives and other people you know to spread a word about you. Its always said word-of-mouth publicity works faster than anything else.
  • Register your name with various websites like yahoo, khoj, sholay, rediff etc.
  • Have brochure/leaflets printed and hand it out to people.
  • What else you could do?

    • Start an event management agency:

    You need to have enough experience in an event management company or get the feel of the industry before you actually start a company of your own. You may begin with small time functions like weddings and parties. For big functions like award shows you need to have a good number of contacts and have a number of people working for you. It does take time to get yourself fully established in this industry. More than the quantity of the shows you organise it is the quality that really matters.

    • Launching a web site:

    This is the age of IT so we must not forget the Internet world, which is also another platform to market yourself. You can launch a website of your own where you can give details about the activities you undertake, your achievements in the profession, brief write-up about how you came to the profession, important photographs etc. There are some web sites like Geocities and Tripod that gives you a small amount of space on the net. You could make use of them.

    • Always maintain a portfolio:

    It is like showing your prospective client of how you have done your job. It creates a good impact on him when he/she is going to see how you have done your work. Always maintain a record of all the projects you have handled. Keep the photographs of all the weddings you have co-ordinated, neatly in an album.
