Module 2
Hierarchy of an NGO :
Hierarchy
is set up in any organisation depending on the various
vacancies, which may exist or be required in the
given organisation.
Let
us describe the strongest most secure, most authoritative
post in a hierarchy as managerial. Lets associate
the manager with certain rights like sanctioning
general aims and guides to subordinates, and with
rights to apprise their performance and capacity
in practise and to assign or reassign work to them
accordingly. Normally a NGO has only one managerial
position, which falls in any of the one category
listed below
- Co-ordinating
Roles: The person here becomes the link between
all the sub units of the organisation and sees
to it that all departments are working in co-
ordination to achieve the organisation goals.
- Monitoring
Roles: The person here overlooks the work
done by the employees, offering direction and
guidance when and wherever needed. The main job
of the person is to see that the work is being
done for the achievement of organisational goals.
- Staff-
officers Role: Looks after the recruitment,
supervision of the staff and the need of the staff.
- Supervisory
Roles: The workers assigned are trained and
assigned work by the supervisor as per the need
and requirements of the organisation.
Each
has it's distinct qualities, but, in general, none
of these types of roles carry authority to set general
aims and guides for those in posts of a lower grade,
or to appraise their performance and capacity, or
to assign or reassign work accordingly.
In
other words, these people will not naturally and
readily be identified as the " Boss". It will be
more natural and satisfactory to have a " Boss"
who is capable of working at the higher stratum
of work and therefore be able to make a radical
adjustment to the whole settings within which work
is carried out when major problems loom and to also
avoid dissatisfaction and internal bureaucracy.
Here
are few examples of the typical

in the social service organisations.
