Module 2
Hierarchy of an NGO:
Manifest
Organisation:
In
manifest organisation, on the surface, it appears
that the Team Leader manages all the members of
the team, directly or indirectly. But it has been
revealed that actually the situation is very different
and comes close to the model given below. In reality,
the Team Leaders, Senior Social Workers, and certain
of the more experienced Basic Grade Workers are
all working within the professional responsibility
for their cases, drawing only on voluntary consultation
with colleagues as and when they require it. Moreover
when large issues appear on the scene they all turn
to the Area Officer for guidance rather than the
Team Leader. In respect of the other workers, the
Team Leader has essentially a co - ordinative role,
co- ordinating the daily flow of work, duty arrangements,
chairing team meetings, etc. In addition they may
also provide advice to their colleagues, when asked.
On
the other hand all the qualified and unqualified
persons, still working in the stratum 1 can be expected
to see the Team Leader (or perhaps one of the stratum
2 workers to whom they maybe assigned for training
purposes in case of students) in a managerial role
or as we say it in the conventional social work
terminology as a realistic and accepted "supervisor".
