Module 2 -- Registration and Management of an NGO -- Personnel Management

Module 2

Personnel Management:

The great designs are usually simple, and they can only be improved by further simplifications. The minds of people working together can never be stimulated mechanically. A Company, as an individual, must love people and posses good human relations. There is no simpler answer. And from that love comes a basic drive to help people develop themselves. The end product is the development of the company.
………. We can have the best in merchandise promotion and physical plant and still fail miserably if we do not have good people. We can even have the best in people and have real difficulty, if they are not paid well, trained well, treated well, and organised to carry out the hundreds of details that are necessary to run a business. That is what personnel administration is all about.

JOHN J. LA PLANTE

Personnel management means nothing but organising and directing the co-operative efforts of human beings.

  • Good management means getting effective results with people.

  • All other resources except human resources are inert and are operated only through people.

  • For any organisation the work team is its most valuable asset.

  • The need of winning the whole-hearted co-operation of people is the central, ever present problem of management.

Especially in social organisation, there is immense need to build in depth motivation amongst the employees, especially because the money is less and the survival of these organisation depends on the drive of these persons.

Thus for most of these organisations, one of the major differential advantages which is a source of competitive competence is the quality of personnel and the ability to mobilise and galvanise their talents and skills. Let us now look at the functions of the Personnel Department.
