Module 2
Training:
Typical
conditions that suggest the need for a training
program are:
- The
volume of work is increasing, and the bottlenecks
are cropping up;
- Operations
are highly repetitive, suggesting need for determining
one best way;
- Operations
are highly complex and require a variety of knowledge
and skills;
- Misunderstanding,
complaints, and bad attitudes are increasing;
- Accuracy
or quality seems to be slipping;
- A
long period is required to bring in a new employee;
Three
Types of Training
It
is desirable to distinguish three basic kinds of
training. These are
- Imparting
information
- Changing
attitudes, and
- Improving
working skills
A
great many devices are available to those conducting
training. The following is the list of the usual
aids:
- Blackboard,
tables and charts.
- Photographic
devices
- slides, sound slides, film, motion pictures.
In addition there are projectors, which will reproduce
forms or film, presenting them on translucent
screens, these are useful for daytime lectures.
- Flow
charts help employees to understand just how their
jobs fit into overall routine.
- Library:
The rapid expansion of research activity in organisation
demand for a properly maintained library. A library
can be a valuable aid to many training activities.
A competent librarian can become a positive training
influence by bringing new knowledge to the attention
of those who should be able to use it.
