knew it since it would become easier for you to understand
your client’s needs. Our motive here is to make you
an all ‘n’ all person so we want you to know how various
weddings are conducted because it will really help you.

and match making?

No, it is not. Horoscope
and match making is something that is done before the
wedding is fixed. But you should know that there are
some wedding co-ordinators who even do matchmaking.
Having a basic information about horoscope and matchmaking
will do you a lot of good. You could even become a wedding

Is it necessary for me to know the different rituals
of India?

Absolutely not. In a country like India where you have
people of different religions, languages, castes and
sub-castes, it is not possible to know the different
rituals. When you are going to co-ordinate a wedding,
your client will explain to you the various rituals
and customs involved. Therefore all you have to do is
to listen to them and act accordingly.

How much will I
earn as a wedding co-ordinator?
A.
Not a paltry amount…definitely.
But this again depends from wedding to wedding and the
amount of experience and recognition you have. You may
start off with as low as a salary in five figures and
could go higher and higher if you have established yourself
fairly in this profession. There are wedding professionals
who can earn a couple of lakhs but this again depends
on the type of wedding.

What
are the downslides of this profession?
A.
The downslides in this
profession are not many. The main thing is that this
profession is unlike the other jobs. It is not regular.
Weddings are seasonal therefore you have work only for
a specific time in a specific month. The advantage here
is that inspite of the erratic nature of the job, it
promises very good money.

If
a wedding co-ordinator does everything, what will the
family and the relatives do?
A.
Everyone wants a role
in the planning and execution of a wedding, especially
the family, friends and relatives of the couple-to-be.
Hiring a wedding co-ordinator does not mean that he/she
is going to take over the function entirely. The major
things (the worry, the details and legwork) would be
taken over by the wedding co-ordinator.
On the day of the wedding the bride’s parents play hosts
(a very demanding role), so they will be busy attending
to guests. The friends and relatives would be busy with
the bride and a host of little tasks to do during the
wedding.
